The Best Home Defense Weapon, Hands-Down

By now I fully understand that the home-defense debate will never end. Whether it’s a rifle, handgun, or shotgun, someone will argue for its advantage over the others. But I’m pretty sure I’ve found what is indisputably the best — a machinegun.

Think about it. If you break into my house armed with a pistol, I can put 30 bullets in you in under two seconds. No pistol can compete with that.

Watch this video, and you’ll see what I mean.

In mid-2011, a gun set up like this will cost around $15,000. This outrageous price is the result of an unconstitutional law fixing the supply of machineguns — you can’t sell them to regular citizens unless they were made and registered before May 19, 1986. Besides being unconstitutional, the law is absurd; if you own a registered machinegun made May 18, 1986, everything is fine. If it was made May 20, you’re a felon. In any event, it weren’t for this restriction, machineguns would cost about the same as a semi-automatic version of the same gun.

The Reason for the Second Amendment

There’s a good reason the founders of the United States expressly denied the government the power to regulate gun ownership. They understood that if the citizens had the same guns as power-lusting rulers, they couldn’t be ruled. And of course that’s precisely why politicians, judges, and unelected bureaucrats completely ignore this constitutional limitation. I mean, if you can’t rule the people, what’s the point of being in the government?

Remember the TV series Lost? Imagine you and 50 other people were stranded on an island. Fred Jones and his three boys get the crowd together and tell everyone they have to turn over their guns. Fred and his boys will provide security, but no one else can.

I don’t know about you, but my response would be “not a chance.” I’m keeping my guns, and if trouble comes, I’ll pitch in to help. But I’m not giving up my guns or my right to provide my own security. And if trouble comes that’s bigger than anyone can handle alone, we’ll get everybody together and put a security detail to work.

In fact, just so we’re ready at a moment’s notice, we ought to form a security club, sort of like the Boy Scouts. We’ll get together twice a week and train. We can call it a militia. We’re freedom-loving people, so we won’t force anyone to serve, but if you don’t, well, that will be greatly frowned upon.

This is precisely how the founders of the United States planned for our defense. They understood that if citizens were forbidden to hold the engines and implements of war, their liberties were not secure. That was the purpose of the Second Amendment, and it explains why there is no qualification whatsoever — the government shall not infringe the right to keep and bear arms. At all.

Defense and security production are too important to trust in the hands of politicians. They can’t even balance the nation’s checkbook. Not to put too fine a point on it, but trusting them with our security is plain stupid.

Help Save America — Learn About Liberty

The Tea Party’s strategy is to take over the Republican party, throw out the moldy old leadership, and then go about reducing the power of government. It’s a good idea, but only if Tea Partiers really understand the principles of liberty on which this country was founded. Unfortunately, that knowledge has been lost. But have no fear, I’ve written a book about our liberties, the threats to them, and how we can recover them peacefully, as long as we act soon. Learn more in The Truth About Liberty: How the Tea Party Can Save America.

Other Home Defense Options

For those who can’t afford $15,000 on home defense, there are other options — the aforementioned handguns, rifles, and shotguns. Take a look at these videos for more info.

  2. This would be a great means of self-defense if it weren’t so expensive. Is there anything we can do to get them to change the law?
